Nervous Hands, Intimacy, and Changes

We had a blast playing UCLA’s Spring Sing a couple weeks ago. I have to say that playing in front of 7,000+ people is probably one of the best feelings you can ever have. The hours leading up to our performance were a bit nerve-wracking that night. My hands were literally shaking as I went through last minute equipment checks backstage. I remember reminding myself. “Dan, you need to focus now”, which was extremely hard to do while thousands of people on the other side of the stage curtain scream with anticipation. But all that nervous energy evaporated when I heard our band name echo in the giant stadium as we rushed on stage. I don’t remember much after that. It was one of the quickest yet most satisfying 4 minutes I’ve ever had. Thanks to all of you that made it out to the show. As soon as I get my hands on the video footage I’ll post it on the site.
Our show at Brew Co. in Westwood, Los Angeles was so much fun. It was a nice follow up to Spring Sing since we were able to play a full set in a more intimate setting. It was so intimate in fact, that we actually started inviting everyone onto the stage to help play our instruments. Thanks to the guys and gals in Kazai Rex who invited us to play this gig.
On a slightly different note, Brian is no longer playing drums for Girls are Robots. I was going to write some official band statement saying it was due to “creative differences” and blah blah blah. But to be honest, it was a mutual decision and just due to the fact that we weren’t getting along like we did when we first got together. Sadly that’s all it really comes down to. There isn’t any drama or juicy gossip beyond that. So we want to say that we wish him luck. He’s available for hire if you are in the LA area and looking for a drummer. You can reach him here.
We recently did a video interview for the Daily Bruin complete with footage from recent shows, backstage banter, and exquisite mustaches (you’ll understand what I mean when you see the video). The video should be up in a few days.
Right now I’m writing and recording like a madman trying to finish this new EP. I’ve been feeling really inspired as of late.
Robotically,
Dan
